What to expect from Windows 8 operating system

Windows 8 has a completely reconfigured user interface from previous Windows operating systems like vista & windows 7, most significantly in its Metro-style user interface. User will have to access a complete touch-based operating system & complete with tiles. Microsoft bind Windows 8 with new features.

On the start screen, you will be able to see all your applications grouped together and you can simply drag to rearrange the layout. Users will also have access to a Windows App store, similar to Apple and Android's app stores where users can download a variety of apps. A handy new feature of the operating system is called ‘Windows to Go', which allows you to boot the operating system from a USB drive, with all your programs, settings and files so you can essentially access all your information on any given computer. The feature is compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 3.0. 

To combat privacy hacks, Microsoft support has introduced a secure login system which will require users to tap three different areas of the screen to unlock it. 

Although Windows 8 has been centered around touch-based interactions. Microsoft has announced that the operating system will run on both x86 PCs as well as ARM-based tablets. This means that if you have an x86 Windows 7 laptop or PC, you could upgrade to Windows 8. The operating system will thus be able to run on tablets, laptops as well as desktops for uniformity across devices.windows 8 also have feature the Lock Screen that lets you control your computer's privacy. And you can personalize the lock screen in your windows 8 computer.

Another big development is that Windows 8 will be tied up with Microsoft's SkyDrive which will allow users to access their data via the cloud (cloud computing support), another feature that Apple's iCloud has already incorporated. Gaming fans should also be able to access Kinect from their laptops, although Microsoft is still working on the software.

Although Windows 8 does not have an official release date, it is speculated that it will be launched sometime in summer this year, may be till March 2012.

Built-in apps

Cloud integration
Windows 8 was very clearly built with the cloud in mind, and designed for a world in which your files and information will be available to you no matter what device you use and where you are. Syncing will be built right into it...although not quite yet. For now, Windows 8 only syncs some information to the cloud, including global settings such as app settings, screen lock picture and themes, browser settings, taskbar and Windows Explorer settings, and some passwords. But eventually, you'll be able to sync data as well.

It's fast
I installed Windows 8 on my old clunker of a test machine, a dual-boot Dell Inspiron E1505 with 1GB of RAM and a single-core Intel T2400 1.83GHz CPU. That's at the very bottom of the hardware requirements for Windows 8. Yet even in this early state on that slow a machine, it was still fast and responsive. It felt even faster than Windows 7 on the same machine.

New Windows Explorer
Windows Explorer is now actually useful in Windows 8. It sports a ribbon interface, so that many features that were previously hidden or hard to find, are now easily accessible via five main tabs, File, Home, Share, View, and Manage.

Computer market quickly shifting from destops to tablets, Microsoft's decision to exceed the original Windows opretating user interface and change the tile-centric user interface customized for the Tablet PC is the logical sense of its new operating system, Windows 8.

Despite this tablet centred progress ,tech-giant announced this week that the new OS, with a launch date has not yet been published (probably in 2012), is designed to run on desktop or laptop PC or tablet, and it would also be able to return to the classic interface if it is to be preferred.

Doubt that this new tablet-centered applications and the operating system that would help undermine the implementation of key programs such as Microsoft Excel and Word ubiquitous been resolved when Microsoft provides the operational capability of trusted systems.

Sarah Rotman Epps, an analyst at Forrester Consumer Products, commented on Windows 8 new features, saying: "He has the markers of a product of post-PC: Windows ARMs have a more ubiquitous computing and casual, first hit make Windows more intimate and physical."

In the future with the launch of Windows 8 supporting tablets, Microsoft plans to trade in tablet market is currently dominated by Apple with a minimum of 70 percent market share.

Windows 8 will become in 2012 - Some features revealed

According to the latest announcement of Steve Ballmer, (Chief Executive officer)CEO of Microsoft the next version of their operating system – Windows 8 will become available in 2012.

During the conference held in Tokyo Steve Ballmer didn’t tell anything about the features of the windows 10 and thus didn’t confirm or reject the rumor circulating on the Internet.

At the same the Chief Executive officer(CEO) said that they work at natural user interface. “We want smart devices to work the way we work, to recognize us and our actions. Speech recognition, vision, handwriting recognition, touch interfaces, these are all part of the theme,” said Steve Ballmer.

The second big area of innovation will come in natural language, i.e. voice, and vision, and touch. “With natural language, we're really asking ourselves the question, can we let you control your computing environment by expressing intent instead of specific commands. Today on a PC, it's file open, blah, blah, blah, respond, reply, forward….. With natural language, whether it's in English, or Japanese, or any one of a number of other languages, you should be able to command the computer with your intent, and have it take action,” explained Ballmer.

The third area will be HTML and JavaScript.

The forth one is chip and form factors. According to Ballmer the new system will support system-on-a-chip architectures, not only from Intel and AMD, but also from a set of ARM vendors.

The last thing Steve Ballmer told about was the cloud. “And with both Azure, Windows Azure and SQL Azure, as well as Office 365, we've made a major step into the cloud,” he said.

Windows 8 "Hybrid Boot" discovered

We've seen a steady flow of Windows 8 news this past month, and it's not ready to stop yet. Earlier this week an old build of Windows 8 was leaked online, and many flocked to download the bits. Today, a site has uncovered a feature that appears to replace the operating systems default shutdown behavior so that the computer can start up even quicker.

Windows 8 Italia uncovered the feature which looks like it is a replacement for the current Windows shutdown behavior. The feature uses advanced hibernation functionality when the computer is shut down (instead of actually shutting it down) and allows the machine to start up faster. The article on Windows 8 Italia actually is a troubleshooting reference for a problem which apparently is caused by the new feature when two operating systems are installed.

The feature is found by typing "power button" into the start menu, and then clicking "Change settings that are currently unavailable." It appears that Microsoft is changing the behavior quietly as it strives to decrease loading times when compared to Windows 7.

Microsoft is expected to launch Windows 8 in 2012 with the current rumored retail availability for January 2013. Another rumor also suggests that there may be a beta as soon as this fall.

Windows 8 cloud features uncovered

After the leak of Windows 8, we expected to find out more about features as users across the internet got their hands on the bits, and some users have already pulled apart Windows 8 and discovered interesting references to functionality that we haven't seen yet.

Windows 8 Italia has uncovered the cloud features by comparing the registry to previous versions. References to Mobile broadband experience account, File Server Resource Manager, Setting Synchronization and Streaming Manager were uncovered.

Mobile broadband experience account appears to be a reference to allowing the user to log in via the cloud, but not too much more detail was available. The File Server Resource Manager will "synchronize files and folders between the local computer and a cloud service," which is likely to be integrated Windows Live Mesh, which was previously rumored to be included.

Setting synchronization is simply the synchronization of the users' settings across the computer (and devices) using the cloud with Windows Live ID (it even appears there's a new group policy object to deal with this already). Finally, streaming manager appears to be technology similar to the type that we saw in the Office 2010 "Click-to-run" beta, which allows the user to install software and use it as parts are being downloaded.
