- First, click on this link and download the program to your "My Documents" folder.: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php You will have to run this program in safe mode and My Documents is one of the few folders you can access in safe mode.
- To get your computer in safe mode you can find the steps provided here at How to start your computer in safe mode.
- Your computer will automatically boot into safe mode. Click on your user name and ok. When the desktop comes up, the screen will be black. This is normal for safe mode. Open your my documents folder, and find the yellow diamond icon and double click on it.
- This will bring up a blue screen and ask to press any key.
- After you do that, type in the number 2 and press enter.
- It will turn off all processes and start the program. It usually takes 5 minutes or less to complete. The process will attempt to clean temporary files and ask you to clean the registry. Answer this with a "y" and press enter. When it is done, put your computer into regular mode by the same process as safeboot, only in reverse. Click Start, run and type in msconfig, go to the boot.ini tab and uncheck the safeboot box. Click apply, close and restart.
- This will have removed the Malware and your computer will boot in normal mode. It does remove the desktop background, so you may have to go back to display properties and change the desktop background again.
