Updates are small files that include patches, fixes, security definitions, and device drivers etc. They are very important for the proper functioning of a Windows, Mac, or Linux whatever OS-based computer. Besides, every OS needs to updated regularly to avoid compromising on performance, speed, functionality, and security of it. That said, I am going to explain some steps that will help you update your Microsoft Windows 7 computer with the latest Windows updates.
1. Click the Start button> navigate to All Programs> Windows Update. Alternatively, you can type 'Windows update' in the Start Search bar and Windows Update will immediately show up in search results.
2. You will now be taken to Windows Update screen in Control Panel> System and Security. Here you can see the status of your Windows computer whether it is updated or not. Besides, you can when it was updated last and other such information.
3. In the left hand panel under Control Panel Home, you will see a couple of options. Check for updates will be one of these options, click it. Make sure that you are logged on as an administrator to your Windows computer to download and install Windows updates. If you are not logged on with admin privileges, Windows will not let you do so.
4. After you have clicked Check for updates, Windows will start looking for any available updates on the Microsoft website. If it finds any, it will show them on the screen. To immediately start installing the updates, click the Install Updates button. If you want to install only selected updates but not all of them, click the important updates are available link.
5. Now you can see what updates are available for installation. You can now select a desired update and then click the Install Update button next to it.
6. When the update(s) has been installed, Windows might prompt you to restart your computer. Do as prompted. When the Windows loads back, you will have it updated.
7. You can also undo any updates that you installed by going back in the Windows Update screen. Click View update history, check the listed updates, select the update that you want to uninstall and click the Uninstall button. Follow rest of the on-screen prompts and you are done.
