If you purchased a new computer and wanted to transfer your files and settings etc. to it from your old computer, you can do it. Windows 7 gives you an easy option to transfer all your files & folders, emails, contacts etc. and email settings, user accounts, screen savers, themes, images and videos among other things to and from your new Windows 7 PC and vice-versa. Remember, Windows Easy Transfer does not transfer programs but their settings. You will need to fresh install programs on the other PC. Check the steps below and get going:
1. Click the Start button and type ‘easy transfer’ (without quotes) in the Start Search bar. Right-click Windows Easy Transfer and select Run as administrator.
2. Input the administrator password and click Continue. Click the Next button and choose a method of transfer from the given options viz. An Easy Transfer Cable, A Network, An external hard disk or USB flash drive.
For example, you want to transfer the files, settings etc. to a USB flash drive, select the An external hard disk or USB flash drive optin on the screen.
3. On the next screen, select whether you are using your old computer or new one. Follow rest of the on-screen instructions and complete the transfer.
4. When done, on your other Windows 7 PC, plug in your USB hard drive and follow the instructions to explore or copy its contents to it. That’s it and you are done!
***For the Easy Transfer Cable method, you will need a special Easy Transfer cable to work with both the computers. If you don’t have the cable, you can purchase it online or from your computer vendor.
***If you have an old Windows XP PC whose data you want to transfer to your brand new Windows 7 PC, download and install Windows Easy Transfer on it (on Win XP).
