Miscellaneous Microsoft-Office 2003 Issues

Having troubles using the Microsoft Office suite or an individual program like Word or Excel 2003? Technical problems like these always occur at the times when you need your Office applications like Word or Excel etc. the most to complete a project. Sometimes, problems go away just by applying simple tweaks and sometimes these make you sit for hours searching in vain for a fix.
Below are the issues that might appear while using MS-Office 2003 on your PC:
  • Cannot open .xls files in MS-Office 2003
  • Access 2003 does not open up
  • You are attempting to open a file that was created in an earlier version of Microsoft Office. This file type is blocked from opening in this version by your registry policy setting
  • You are attempting to open a file type that is blocked by your registry policy setting
  • You are attempting to open a file type File_Type that has been blocked by your File Block settings in the Trust Center
  • Cannot open hyperlinks in Outlook emails
  • Cannot open attachments in Outlook mails
  • Cannot open or save PDF attachments in Outlook 2003
  • Word documents don’t respond when try to open them
  • Cannot access contacts in Access 2003
Check the steps below and fix your Microsoft-Office 2003 issues:
To resolve hyperlinks not opening problem, reset Internet Explorer settings. Open IE, click Tools> select Internet Options> click Advanced. Click the Reset button at the bottom right hand side. When prompted for a confirmation, click on Yes or OK. When finished, click Apply and then OK to close the window. The problem will be fixed.

For word documents don’t respond problem, try this tweak. Click the Start menu> Control Panel> and double-click Add or Remove Programs. If you see Microsoft Live Add-in 1.3/1.4 or other, click to select it, and then click the Change/Remove button. If prompted, click Yes or Remove to confirm and proceed. If prompted, reboot your computer. Uninstalling this Add-in will help fix the problem.

To resolve PDF attachment problem in Outlook 2003, click the Start menu> go to Run> and type ‘regedit’ (without quotes and as it is) in the box. Click OK or hit Enter to open Registry Editor. Press Ctrl + F keys together on the keyboard to bring up the Find box. Type ‘OutlookSecureTempFolder’ (without quotes) in the box and click the Find Next button.

When the key comes up, copy the folder’s location (it will look like C:\Documents and Settings\%USER_NAME%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK*\ (where * is a random number or letter). Go to the Start menu again and then open Run. Now type the location (that you copied from Registry Editor for OutlookSecureTempFolder) in the Run box and hit Enter. On the Windows Explorer screen, select and delete all the files in this folder. Close Windows Explorer and close and reopen MS-Outlook 2003. This should resolve your issue related to PDF attachments.
